The Program
Jam Camp West is a unique and fun six-day music and dance program held in the stunning redwoods
of Loma Mar, Northern California. Designed for middle school youth (typically 10 through 15), Jam Camp
exposes kids to the contemporary trends in music and dance including jazz, funk, blues, gospel, hip-hop, beat box, etc.)
along with fun outdoor activities in a stunning natural environment.
A great alternative to traditional music camps, Jam Camp is an inclusive, supportive program where all
classes are taught by ear, offering hands-on group experiences for all levels and an array of classes that
can reach kids through music they are listening to today.
Curriculum
Campers will create a personal schedule by choosing from over twenty noncompetitive workshops offered
each day along with daily outdoor activities.
Classes are taught by professional artists, assisted by
young aspiring musicians from our counselor program.

The curriculum offers instrumental ensembles taught by ear, vocals, dance, steel drum, percussion, beat box,
body percussion, turntables, and more. With an array of musical styles to choose from, students are exposed
to contemporary musical trends along with the cultural underpinnings of jazz. The Jam Camp curriculum is designed
to attract our youth with contemporary music they can identify with, while also maintaining respect for cultural
jazz traditions and it's many influences. Our classroom is the majestic
redwood forest and unique nature adventures and other interpretive and recreational out-door activities are
woven into the daily program.
Recreational activities include swimming, basketball, volleyball, nature hikes, ping-pong, arts and crafts,
and tetherball. Our outdoor activities are crafted to promote awareness of the beautiful natural world at
Redwood Glen. A wide range of planned evening activities - from student open mics, faculty showcases to
exciting campfire programs, make nights under the stars memorable and fun.
